On 21st April, the Learning -without-wall Day, all S1 students of Carmel Secondary School went on an ‘Ocean Park Exploration Trip’. Before the trip began, the students were given a worksheet of the animals in Ocean Park. While the students were waiting for their turn to enter the venue, they were very excited.
The first destination of the trip was the Hong Kong Jockey Club Sichuan Treasures. The students learnt about the living habitat of pandas, the food that they eat, and their body features by reading the display boards. Moreover, the students were required to make observation of these adorable animals’ behaviours and answer the questions given in the worksheet.
Next, they paid a visit to the Grand Aquarium where they could see different kinds of sea animals. Plenty of information about the marine animals was provided by the aquarium such as their living environment, how they caught their prey and how their body structures helped them survive in the sea. All students found the tour very educational and interesting.
Finally, the students reached the last stop, North Pole Encounter. The students were able to get the answers to the questions like ‘Do the sea lions have a backbone?’ What things do they eat ?’ The students could also gain some less well-known facts and knowledge about science, which might not be acquired from textbooks.
Most of the F.1 students agreed that this event could help them to learn more about the mysterious ocean. They thought that this trip was meaningful and enchanting and they hope the school will organize more activities of this sort in the future.
