Write an essay arguing either for or against the statement, “It is better to study in a coeducational school than a single-sex school.”
Nowadays, there are both coeducational schools and single-sex schools for us to choose. Different parents have different choices. Some of them think it is better to study in a coeducational school but some of them think it is better to study in a single-sex school. In my opinion, it is better to study in a coeducational school.
First, boys and girls are good at different subjects. Most boys are good at Science and Mathematics and girls are good at History and Literature. They may be weak in some subjects but are good at others. So if they are studying in a coeducational school, they can learn from others and improve their interest in studying different subjects.
Second, do you think there is only one sex in society? The answer is absolutely “No”. So, if students study in a single-sex school, they may only know how to communicate with people who are of the same sex, but they do not know how to communicate or cooperate with people who are of the opposite sex. This may affect their life in the future and decrease their competitiveness in society. This not only hinders their development at present but also in the future.
Third, most boys are active and love playing sports, while most girls are relatively shy and quiet. If students are studying in a single-sex school, it will limit their social life. But if students are studying in a coeducational school, they can strike a balance. Boys may inspire girls and make them more active and girls may make boys calm down during certain moments or at appropriate time. Studying in a coeducational school can let students know more about the opposite sex and improve their social life.
Some parents may say that if their children study in a coeducational school, they may fall in love and start dating. But in a teenager’s life, this is very normal. Even if they study in a single-sex school, it does not mean that they will not fall in love with students of another school.
In conclusion, students who study in a coeducational school can learn from each other, learn to communicate or work with students of the opposite sex, improve their social life and enhance their competitiveness in society. Because of the above reasons, I think it is better to study in a coeducational school than a single-sex school.
