Book Title: The BFG
Author: Roald Dahl
How would you react if you saw a giant outside your window at the witching hour? You would feel pretty shocked, wouldn’t you? Well, that’s exactly how Sophie felt when she saw the BFG blowing a dream into a bedroom with his trumpet. Due to a fear of being found by humans, the BFG took Sophie to his cave. After he witnessed Sophie nearly getting eaten by another giant called the Bloodbottler, they devised a plan to make the other giants disappear forever.
The characters in this story are endearing. The BFG is a kindhearted giant who blows dreams into the bedrooms of sleeping children. Since he’s never gone to a school, his speaking is rather unusual. For example, he calls human beings ‘human beans’. I like how Roald Dahl wrote his dialogue. It makes the BFG a much more interesting character.
The theme of this story is friendship. Throughout the novel, Sophie and the BFG work together to eliminate the giants. Although the BFG wasn’t motivated to do it initially, Sophie convinced him to do it. This reflects friendship in real life. As friends, it is our responsibility to help and motivate each other when one of us loses hope.
Worldbuilding is another thing that might capture the readers’ attention. An example is how the author explains how humans from different places taste different toward giants. For example, the Turks have a glamorous flavor, but the Greeks taste greasy.
In conclusion, this book is extraordinary. The characters are likeable, and the theme is quite interesting. The worldbuilding is fantastic, and it would attract anyone who likes fantasy stories. I would recommend this to fans of Roald Dahl’s books and people who want fantasy stories.
