The 46th Annual Carmel Sports Day was held at the Kowloon Tsai Sports Ground on 4th October 2010.  The students and parents filled the spectators’ stands.  The weather was cloudy.  There were showers of rain but the sports ground was filled with excitement.
The Sports Day began with a prayer led by the leader of Senior Christian Fellowship.  All the people sang the school song while some scouts were performing the flag raising ceremony.   Mr Kung Kam-tim, the Principal, made the opening speech.  He reminded students the importance of unity by comparing the Chinese and the Japanese.  He also encouraged them to try their best in the track and field events.

The competitors from each house participated enthusiastically in the various events.  The cheering team and the spectators of each house cheered loudly when they saw athletes of their house won the game.  The cheering teams danced very gracefully too.  It was marvellous that some teachers danced with them.  Some students also waved flags.  Everyone was very excited.
The most exciting event was the house-teacher 4 by 100m relay.  It was a close match.  At first, Virtue House was in the lead and Loyalty House was the second.  Luckily, the last runner of Loyalty House ran extremely fast and overtook Mr Paul Wong, the last runner of Virtue House.  Finally, Loyalty House won.

Another exciting event was the boys’ grade C 4 by 100m relay.  The players from Intellect House ran very fast and led all the way.  All the students from Intellect House screamed loudly when the last runner breasted the finishing tape.

Wong Pui-ling of 2D broke the school record in the girls’ grade C 60m sprint.  She is such a fast runner!  Her time was 8.31 seconds.  The winner of the girls’ grade C softball was Lee Ying-ying of S2.  She also broke the school record.  Her distance was 35.91 metres and her performance was so amazing.

Before the Closing Ceremony, many students and parents participated in the parent-child brisk walk or jog.  It was a good opportunity for students and parents to participate in a sports event together.  They enjoyed the brisk walk very much.

Mrs Leung Ip-yau, the guest-of-honour, made the inspirational concluding speech. She said she was very fit because she had done a lot of exercise when she lived in Cheung Chau in the past.  She explained that every letter in the word “SPORTS” had a special meaning.  The first “S” stood for stress relieving.  “P” stood for physical fitness.  “O” stood for optimistic attitude.  “R” stood for resistant to illness.  “T” stood for team spirit and the last “S” stood for shine for your house and yourself.

After delivering the speech, Mrs Leung Ip-yau presented the prizes.  Virtue House won both the “Cheering Team Champion” and the “Overall Championship”.  Intellect House was the first runner up.  Many students from Intellect House cried, especially the cheering team because they had spent a lot of effort in practicing dancing but their house was unable to become the champion.
Everyone enjoyed the Sports Day very much.  Keith Lee of 1C thought that the Sports Day was very exciting.  He opined that the house-teacher 4 by 100m relay was the most spectacular event because it was fun to see the teachers running.  Many students had the same feeling.

The 46th Annual Carmel Sports Day was a success.  Every player did their best.  Everyone had a memorable time.
