Introduction
This proposal is to make suggestions for the Careers Week, to enable senior students to make informed choices of their future careers. The objectives of the week would be introducing some of the most popular careers and providing senior students with information on how they can pursue those careers.
Activities of the Careers Week
In order to let students have some ideas about future jobs, I would like to suggest a series of lunch-time seminars at school. We could interview some students and choose five of the most popular careers, such as doctors, accountants, air hostesses, directors and designers. Then we could invite some alumni to conduct the seminars. The speakers could introduce some basic information and requirements of those careers, or even share with students some interesting experience or setbacks at work. This could help students to know more about their choices of careers in the future, so that they would not be too worried.
Another suggestion is to organize visits for the students after school or on Saturday morning. A talk could only give students the background of some careers, but a visit could let students experience and have first-hand information about those particular careers. This can help students to realize how they can equip themselves for their future paths. For example, a visit to the headquarters of Cathay Pacific could be organized, which could help students to know more about the working environment and the work of the airline.
Thirdly, I propose organizing a workshop on interview techniques and manners in the week. It is a fact that the job interview is extremely important since it makes the first impression on the future employers. It would be useful to give students chances to role play job interviews. We could invite some experts to come and organize a workshop for our students, in order to teach them how to make a good impression on the potential employers.
Conclusion
I hope my suggestions would be useful for the Careers Week and that senior students could be benefited.
