Nowadays, many students like to study abroad after completing Secondary Three. In this essay, I will discuss the arguments for and against students studying abroad after completing Secondary Three.
First of all, the advantage of studying abroad of studying abroad is to improve students’ English. In Hong Kong, students seldom communicate with others in English because Chinese is their mother tongue. However, when they study abroad, they must communicate with others in English because it is the only language that everyone knows. Therefore, their English will be improved after studying abroad for a long time.
Another advantage of studying abroad is that students can learn to be independent. When they move to another country, they need to take care of themselves because their parents will not live with them. They need to do everything by themselves like cooking and cleaning the house. Through these experiences, they will grow up and learn to be independent if they study abroad.
Although there are lots of advantages of studying abroad, there are also some disadvantages of studying abroad.
A serious disadvantage of studying abroad is that students may be homesick. Though S3 students are not young kids anymore, they still have homesickness when they study abroad. When they need to face a completely new environment, they may miss their family because they are lonely in a new environment and no one will care about them like their parents do. They may feel lonely if they study abroad.
Another serious disadvantage of studying abroad is lacking social support. Students who study abroad all come from different countries so their culture and language are very different. It is not easy for them to make friends with different cultures. They may have no friends or they may even be bullied by others. They may lack social support. As they don’t live with their parents, if they cannot make friends there, it is difficult for them to study in other countries.
To sum up, there are advantages and disavantages of studying abroad. In my opinion, I think it is better for students to study abroad but should be after completing Secondary Six and they should find friends to study abroad with them so they will have a partner and they can help each other in another country.
