Book Title : The Blue Lotus

Author : Herge

This is a book called “The Blue Lotus” and it is about the main character Tintin, a reporter who was trying to save a kidnapped professor who was nearly executed in an underground room near an opium den called “The Blue Lotus”.

The name of the book, “The Blue Lotus”, makes it seem like an ordinary book.  But the story content was very exciting.  I was amazed by what the author wanted to express because it was not just to tell the readers that good people will always defeat bad people.  It says that bad things done will be revealed one day, so we should not do bad things.

In the story, there are a few characters that I really appreciated. First it is the main character Tintin.  I really appreciate him for his trying to save others even though he was nearly killed.  He tried to save everyone in danger before his life ended.  The spirit of thinking about others more is very hard to achieve.  So I really like this character.

Another one is the kidnapped professor’s son, Wang.  He was a character who made readers laugh because of his crazy dance, while making the story more exciting because he liked to execute people and animals.

There are a few elements which makes the story more interesting and exciting.  One of them is the different characteristics of the characters. For example, two of the characters, Thomson and Thompson, always fell off the stairs in the story and were both sent to the local hospital because they didn’t look out!  This gives the readers a clumsy impression of both of them.  While another character Mistushirato was always angry  but being “nice” to the people who he hated.  This gives the readers a fresh impression about how cruel he was.

The whole story, including both the plot and the idea, was amazing.  However, there was only one defect.  And that was the part when the rickshaw which Tintin got on, hit into a foreigner of Shanghi and the rickshaw guy got scolded.  I think the scene was a bit meaningless and useless.  It was because the foreigner scolded the rickshaw guy a while before he left. Usually the rich man had more authorities, so they would continue scolding and ignored other people. I think the author can rewrite the sentences above in a better way like this, “The foreigner kept scolding the rickshaw guy for a long time. At last, Tintin couldn’t stand it and told the foreigner to stop scolding immediately.  The foreigner had something to do, so he left the scene immediately.” This would be a great and better way to write it.

I general, this was really a great book, “The Blue Lotus” was meaningful.  It was not ordinary at all, but fully exciting. I highly recommend this book to all of you.
