Nowadays, more and more teenagers are addicted to computer games. The attraction of computer games is unbelievably huge and that is why teenagers can play them day and night without doing other things. Therefore, I am for the statement, ‘Computer games are bad for teenagers.’

To begin with, computer games affect teenagers’ academic performances. Teenagers are the ones who are likely to lack self-control. They can be addicted to computer games very easily. If they are addicted to computer games, they will keep playing the games and stop studying. As result, they will perform poorly in their exams and their academic performances will be undoubtedly and inevitably affected.

In addition, computer games affect teenagers’ social lives and their relationships with others. As computer games can be addictive to them, they will only indulge themselves in computer games instead of spending time with friends and talking to the people whom they trust. Therefore, computer games will affect students’ social lives.

Moreover, computer games affect teenagers’ physical health. Researches have proven that the bright light released by the computer can lead to a destructive effect on teenagers’ eyesight. Nowadays, it is not difficult to see an 11-year-old little kid who wears a pair of glasses. This is due to the immense popularity of computer games. As a result, more and more teenagers are damaging their eyes unconsciously. Not only will the eye problems be resulted, but also other physical problems. Scientists have recently proven that radiation can lead to cancer in the long term. Therefore, with long-term indulgence in computer games, teenagers’ physical health can be destroyed in the long run.

Last but not least, video games can harm teenagers’ mental health. According to statistics, some video games are designed for adults. In other words, they may contain indecent content such as violence and adultery. If teenagers receive these kinds of inappropriate information, their mental health will then be seriously harmed.

Not long ago, a teenager, passed away because he had played  computer games for three days consecutively without eating and sleeping. This really shows that computer games can even lead to death.

Some say that playing computer games can alleviate teenagers’ pressure. In fact, it is undeniable. However, teenagers have tones of alternative methods to release their pressure. Why should they insist on using such kind of harmful, ineffective and even fatal method to satisfy their desires and to ‘alleviate their pressure?’ Sad but true, it is ridiculous.

To conclude, computer games can affect teenagers academically, socially, physically and mentally. Teenagers should try all means to escape from the jail of computer games.
