The new western film is about two old cowboys and a boy living together in a big farm in 1960s. The young actor who acted the role of Walter is Haley Joel Osment. Michael Caine and Robert Duvall played Hub and Garth, who are Walter’s great uncles. The director of Secondhand Lions is Tim McCanlies.
One summer, Walter, who is the main character, is sent to live with his great uncles (Hub and Garth) by his mother. His mother, Mae, wants him to take the money from their home. Walter lives with Hub and Garth, who tell him many stories about themselves. Garth tells him how Hub helps the kidnapped princess and defeats the wicked sheik. Walter knows that uncle Hub wants to end his life because of being old and useless. When they were young, the two men thought that they were very powerful. However, they are negative now. After a few days, they buy a lion which is very old and weak. The two old men think that she is useless due to her old age. Therefore, Hub and Garth are like secondhand lions because they think they are useless and old too. Walter feeds and plays with the lion. One day, the lion protects Walter and dies owing to a heart attack. The lion does a heroic act before she dies. She dies in honor.
Overall, Secondhand Lions is an excellent film. It is an extremely amusing film for all ages. Despite the less exciting opening, the storyline is very interesting and entertaining. The ending is also very touching. The theme is all about love and family, and the love between the two great uncles and Walter is especially moving. It cannot be replaced by money and any other things in the world.
The film is sometimes very funny and sometimes touching. Will Hub and Garth commit suicide because of being useless? To find out the answer, you don’t need to wait for the DVD. Go and see the movie at the cinema. Don’t forget to bring some Kleenex. You must not miss it.
