Why I joined the talent contest
Many probably know me as ‘The Angel of Voice’ after I’ve won the recent talent contest, but only few have heard of why I joined the competition in the first place. The truth is that I was persuaded by my good friend to participate in the contest with her so as to keep her company. Although I enjoy singing dearly, I never would have joined competitions of any sort because I was rather shy and lacked confidence. However, I am really glad now that I took a leap out of my comfort zone and went on stage because not only was my singing appreciated by judges and the audience, but I have also grown into a much better person after the contest.
How my life has changed since I won the contest
These few months have been really busy for me since my singing career has just taken off and I still have many new things to adapt to. When I look back on these past few months, I noticed some significant changes in my life in both my lifestyle and my inner-self. For most of the days, I was greeted by a group of paparazzi when I left my house and they would ask me questions regarding my feelings, dreams or gossips about me. It definitely took me some time to adapt to this change in my life because I was not really comfortable with the flashing cameras and people surrounding me. Another change in my lifestyle is that I have to work for a very long period of time. Before the contest, I was merely a normal girl who just got a job and worked at most from 9a.m. to 5p.m.. However, after the contest, I have to wake up at 7a.m. to head to the studio, and work for 10-12 straight hours. I have to attend singing lessons, practise dance moves and record songs. It is exhausting and tough for me, but I still enjoy my lifestyle now so I am certain that I will persist onwards.
As for the changes in my inner-self, I have observed that I have become more confident. When I first joined the contest, I still had stage fright and was quite shy. My hands would shake and my legs would wobble as I sang songs, but due to constant practices and trainings, I grow more confident of myself and believe that I can achieve the impossible. These changes have helped me become a better and stronger me than before.
My plans for the future
I am currently recording some songs for my new album ‘This is Me’ with some amazingly talented artists and musicians. My record company expects to finish recording the album in the near future so it will be released soon. For the long run, I have discussed with my company and agreed to try-out for a role in a huge musical in Hong Kong. In this way, I could sing, act and dance as well so my career would be more diversified.
Be the original me
Before I agreed to start my singing career, my parents and I had a lot of talking. They were worried that the media would bother me a lot and that I could not cope with the tremendous stress. What worried them the most was that they were afraid that after I became famous, I would be money-oriented and neglect the moral values within me. After listening to them, I also thought about these matters. However, I decided to give myself a chance to live a completely new life. I reassured my parents that despite the difficulties I would encounter or the clashing moral values in the artists’ world, I would still stay true to myself and uphold the correct values. I would also like to tell all my audience and fans that I would still be the original and one-and-only ‘Pat Chan’ as I was before I won the talent contest.
