The Best Part of My Job
Have you ever thought about interviewing some famous people in person? Have you ever dreamt about travelling around the world without paying a penny and being part of the news you read in the newspapers? All these come true when I become a news reporter for the Hong Kong News. As a news reporter, I always get the opportunities to visit different parts of the world to report various kinds of events worldwide, including great festivals, wonderful sports games and also some tragic riots or demonstrations. I remember being assigned to go to the United States to report the result of the new round of President elections which Obama won. I was so lucky that I was offered to go to the White House and have a 15-minute face-to-face interview with him. I was so thrilled and grateful at that moment. Up till now, I still cannot believe that I really met with President Obama in person and took a snapshot with him. It was really once in a blue moon experience.
The Biggest Challenge I have ever Faced in My Job
Although being a news reporter is really a great job, things don’t go as smoothly as I have expected. Obstacles always exist. Once I went to Egypt to report a riot in Cairo and also the development of the Jasmine Revolution. Since the whole Cairo at that time was in chaos and everything in Egypt was a mess, the reporting team could not get access to the Internet and carry out a live broadcast. The whole team racked their brains to sort out the solutions, but in vain. Luckily, some Egyptian teens lent a helping hand to us and we could get connected through their secret network. Obstacles can always be overcome if you don’t quit.
My School Days
When I was a student, to be honest, I really studied very hard, especially in English. I read newspapers every day and actively participated in different school teams, for instance, the English Debating Team. Through debating on different hot social issues, I’ve learnt to analyze from different perspectives, which develops my critical thinking and also boosts my English skills. My interest in current affairs is also nurtured. The school is really a good place for you to gear up and get well prepared for your future career. My school experience has paved the way for my current choice of career.
Dare to Dream?
What drives me to the path now is a dream, a dream to be a professional news reporter. Work hard and spare no pains to pursue your dream. Once you fulfill it, you will find that it’s all worth it. Treasure your life as you only live once!
