Meat-free Mondays

Dear fellow students,

Have you ever thought that your life is not green enough? Do you fancy eating vegetables and juicy fruit? If you do, we, the Student Union, are pleased to tell you that we are going to organize a meaningful campaign called Meat-free Mondays, in which you are most welcome and encouraged to go vegetarian for four consecutive Mondays!

You may be curious and puzzled about why we suddenly come up with such an odd campaign. In fact, we have considered two main aspects before the launch of the Drive.

For the social aspect, global warming and climatic changes have been the pressing and menacing problems that the world is facing. Among the numerous factors causing the problems, meat production is usually said to be one of the culprits which emits greenhouse gases. It is because while raising livestock for meat or processing the semi-finished meat by machines, massive carbon compounds are generated and become some of the greenhouse gases. It is hoped that the campaign can make our schoolmates aware of the issues by reducing personal carbon footprints. As for each individual, we observe that few of you are willing to play hard in P.E. lessons. It is not because you are tired, but too bulky to move energetically. Therefore, we sincerely invite all of you to participate in the Meat-free Mondays to lose some disgusting weight as well as to stay healthy through crunching the vegetables.

Having only vegetables and fruit in your meals for four consecutive Mondays doesn’t it sound great? Starting from next month, which will be March, the campaign will be formally launched. During the period, the tuck-shop in our school will offer vegetarian lunch boxes to all of you. There will be a new series of vegetarian delicacies for each single Monday, and we are quite sure that the meals will be appealing enough to quench your appetites. So, you will be missing a precious chance to taste the delicious and healthy dishes if you decide not to take part in the Drive. No matter whether you are a vegetarian fanatic or not, just don’t miss the chance and promote this event to your buddies. Stay fit and healthy together.

Apart from having a chance to taste the delicacies, you can also be refreshed from the moody and ‘meaty’ weekends by joining the campaign. As you may have noticed, the activities are held on every consecutive Monday and Mondays are undoubtedly the most dreadful day in a week. As we are still trapped by intensive holiday mood, eating meat in lunchtime will only make our brains stuck. However, having vegetables is another case. Vegetables are rich in vitamins and minerals, which can boost our memory and speed up the metabolic rate in our bodies. These act as very effective refreshments for our bodies, especially on Mondays.

Still hesitating? Go to the covered playground and get a glimpse of the promotion poster showing all the details including the information of the dishes on the display board. Once again, it is certainly a golden chance to lead a green and healthy life in the coming campaign! You’ll love it!

Yours faithfully,

Pat Li
