I would like to suggest the following kinds of programmes for Teen TV:
1. Documentaries
The TV channel could present documentaries to teenagers in Hong Kong to let them know more about things happening all around the world. Documentaries are realistic video clips which may contain knowledge about science research, animals, history or current affairs. As teenagers in Hong Kong have to study Liberal Studies, they are required to gain comprehensive knowledge. Different types of documentaries can provide various information for teenagers to study the world. Teenagers may not like to watch news reports because they may think that news reports are boring. Documentaries may be attractive to them as there are often many critics in documentaries expressing their views on the affairs instead of listening to an anchor reading out the news in the news report. For example, the “News Magazine” and “Tuesday Report” are also famous documentaries which are about current affairs and news.
2. Travel programmes
There should be travel programmes for teenagers as these programmes introduce different countries to them and they are able to learn more about different cultures of different places. There is usually one or more hosts travelling to many countries, introducing the characteristics of different cultures, customs, dishes, costumes and scenic spots all around the world. Even though some teens may not be able to afford the travelling expenses, they can know more about different countries by watching the programmes. Travel programmes are not just for entertainment, teenagers can also learn things through watching them. “The King of Adventure” and “The Global Fantasies” are good examples of travel programmes.
3. Music programmes
Music programmes could be introduced since most of the teenagers in Hong Kong love listening to music for relaxation and see music as a fashion. There are many types of music, including pop music, rock music, R&B and symphonies. Teens nowadays love to put on their earphones, turn on their music players and enjoy the music whenever they have leisure time. Because of the stress in school, family or friendship, most of the teens choose to listen to music as their way of relieving stress. It is popular to talk about well-known singers among peers. Music programmes like “Jade Solid Gold” and “Music Station” are famous music shows in Hong Kong.
