Oh my gosh! It was ten o’clock in the morning already? How long had I slept? I looked around and found that the sun was hanging in the sky already. I was too tired to get up. I could only blame myself as I didn’t sleep early on Saturday.
I tried to find my mom but I could not find her. She should be around home during that time of the day. Suddenly I heard “hey, hey…Hey, hey… I’m right here!” said a soft voice. The voice was so high-pitched. It actually squeaked. I looked around the living room and saw a pinkish fairy flying around the chandelier. When I looked closer, it was Mom!
I was completely confused, so I asked her.
“Mom? You…you are a fairy?”
“Technically, I’m a half-fairy.You may not know this because I have never told you before.”
“Half? What do you mean?”
“Your grandmother was a fairy. She passed away after your birth so it’s reasonable that you don’t know much about her. But your grandfather is a human. So now, I have half of each of their blood so I’m a half-fairy.”
“But why are you a fairy now? It has never happened before.”
“It’s because it’s Fairy Sunday. I will be normal when the sun goes down. But don’t worry. This only happens once a century. Guess I’m the lucky one then.”
Wow… that was shocking. But, it was a fact so I had to accept it. “Celeste? Sweetie? One last thing… My whole body has shrunk so… Can you take care of me for the day?” Mom said embarrassingly. Well, my mom took care of me since I was small. I guessed this was a payback.
Even though the sound was very soft, I heard a tiny grumbling sound from mom’s stomach. But how could I feed her? Everything was so big and she was so small! I tore small pieces off my chicken breast, chopped some bits off my broccoli and diced my eggs and gave them to Mom. It was like mini breakfast. She was full so what’s next? Take a bath? No way! It was too troublesome. But then what’s next? I knew what to do! I would put her to bed so she could sleep until the moon rose.
So, I made a comfy little bed out of a shoebox, cotton, Barbie’s cushions and a handkerchief. “Looks nice,” I thought. Then she flew inside the “bed” and slept instantly.
By the time she woke up, it was eight o’clock in the evening. Hooray! This madness finally ended! When I tried to find Mom, I found a normal-sized woman crushing the home-made mini-bed. And it was her.
Now I know how mom feels when she has taken care of me for thirteen years! It has been tiring and exhausting and she still has to endure my tantrums. Since I know how she feels, I will be a good girl and control my temper.
