My name is Chan Luk Yee. But what does my name mean?
First, ‘Chan’ is my father’s surname. It is a family name. ‘Luk’ sounds mostly like ‘Lok’ but I don’t know why my name is spelt ‘Luk’. Maybe this makes my name special! Then, ‘Yee’ means comfortable, happy and free. ‘Luk’ plus ‘Yee’ mean a river in a forest. But when we say these words in Chinese, they have the same sound as ‘a happy child’. Wouldn’t it sound strange when I get older?
Lastly, ‘Phoebe’ comes from my birthplace – Fiji. Don’t they sound alike? ‘Phoebe’ means a shiny thing and an illustrious person. Wow, wonderful! Also, it means the God of the Moon from Greece.
My mum may want me to be a happy person so every character in my name means ‘happy’. Now, I am a cheerful person. Do you think so?
