She couldn’t believe her eyes. It was really him. Horror ran through her veins, making her shiver and tremble. Ann continued to stare at him who was only a couple of tables away. She needed to hide fast, or else, this would be her last night living.
His name was Dean and he was Ann’s ex-boyfriend. He was also a former best friend of Ann’s husband, Nick. Ann was hanging out with Dean when Dean introduced his best friend, Nick, to her. It was love at first sight! Nick and Ann fell in love secretly and always met in small alleys where no one could discover them. They wanted to be with each other forever so they decided to leave Dean and got married. But first, they needed money. As Dean was a rich young lad with millions he inherited from his parents, they planned to steal the money. Their plan worked successfully and Dean’s money was all gone. However, Ann and Nick had forgotten a small detail about Dean. He was the mastermind of a terrible gang so he could kill a person in a blink of an eye. Dean was furious when he found out Nick and Ann’s betrayal and swore he would kill them, no matter what. When Nick and Ann heard about this, they fled away quickly to a small village in Norway to hide from Dean. Both of them were terrified and lived each day in fear. They were always getting the feeling that Dean would pop up sooner or later and take his revenge.
That had been years from now and Ann had finally been able to start her new life happily…until today. Sweat dripped down her forehead and her hands trembled slightly. Her heart pounded heavily and she started to pant. Ann didn’t know what to do. She knew that she must leave the restaurant as soon as possible. The longer she stayed, the bigger the danger she was in, but if she walked out through the door, Dean would surely spot her.
She bit her lip and made up her mind. She decided to try her luck. It was dangerous and her chance of making it out alive was one in a million but she had no choice. Ann waited for another table to pay their check and leave. Then she followed them out with her head lowered.
‘Thump, thump…’ she could hear her heart pounding as she got closer and closer to Dean’s table. She could see they icy coldness in his eyes, full of hatred and revenge. She gulped and continued. When Ann walked by Dean, she hold her breath, and felt his stare piercing through her skin. It was a tough few seconds but miraculously, she made it! Ann left the restaurant alive!
Ann hurried down the street, away from the restaurant. She was safe…She felt someone tapping on her shoulder. She turned around slowly and saw a pair of silver earrings glimmer at the moonlight. It was Dean. They stared at each other for a moment in silence. A puff of wind blew and yellow leaves fell on the pavement.
‘I told you I would find you. No matter where you hide, I’ll get you. It’s just the matter of time,’ said Dean with a little evil laugh.
‘No, please! Dean, I’m sorry. I really am. Please forgive me. I promise we will return everything,’ Ann pleaded helplessly with tears in her eyes.
Dean said nothing but slowly raised a gun from his pocket. He pointed the gun at Ann. This was it. This was the end. Ann backed away slowly while Dean got closer and closer. Suddenly, everything went blank.
Ann opened her eyes to find herself lying on the dark street. She felt dizzy and had a headache. What had happened? She was still alive? That was strange. She wondered. She had numerous questions but no answer. Ann got to her feet and hurried back home. When she reached her house, she nearly cried out with joy. She had thought she would never see home again. Her face glowed with happiness. She couldn’t wait to see her beloved husband again. Ann glanced at the window. There was still light in the house. Nick must be waiting for her. She thought.
She reached her door. It stood ajar. That was strange. Just as Ann was about to push open the door, ‘Bang!’ Blood splattered onto the window. Ann’s body froze like ice and she saw a stream of blood exuding through the door crack. Soullessly, she lowered her head and saw a silver earring left at the doorway. It belonged to a man she was familiar with.
