Until one day, she hugs Sam’s donkey and tells him that her heart is broken. Then Sam realizes that and helps her mend her heart—by kissing her.
Besides, she is a kind person. She teaches both children and adults. Though a lot of men in town are not educated, Katherine never minds. She is willing to teach them all although most adults are more interested in the teacher than getting an education.
Moreover, she is a dignified and stubborn person. She knows that Trout Walker as the most influential person in town, but she denies his offer to take a ride on his boat. Not only that, even she is pointed with a rifle, demanded to reveal the place where the treasures are, she refuses to tell Trout.
