One night, I was awakened by the sound of distant thunder. As I opened my eyes, I was in a strange room and I saw some green creatures moving around. I was shocked and thought, “What happened? What happened? Where am I?” Then, I remembered…
At that time, I would be sitting on my cosy bed, reading my favourite book—“Harry Potter and the goblet of fire”. Besides, my friend, Dorothy ought to be sleeping overnight at my house. So…“Where am I?”
As I was still thinking, somebody called me, “Hedy! Hedy!” I turned around and saw Dorothy! I called out,
“Dorothy! You are here too! Then it isn’t a dream!” I stopped for a while and asked her, “Do you know where we are?”
Dorothy shrugged her shoulders and said, “No idea!”
Suddenly, a green creature came into the room. He was short and skinny. He had a long beard. He also had five legs! We were terrified. He asked others to leave and we were alone with him. He said in a cheery tone,
“Hi, girls! Don’t be afraid! I am Zuzu, the king of this country. Our citizens are asking for your help and we won’t hurt you.”
We were puzzled. I asked him,
“Where is it? Why do you need our help?”
“This is the year of 2128 and here is Hong Kong, the capital of China.” Zuzu said.
“What?” Dorothy yelled, “We are in the future?”
“Yes.” Zuzu said, “We are in trouble and we need your help, because we heard that the people in the past were very smart.”
I was a bit proud of myself and asked,
“What is the problem then?”
Zuzu sighed. He said, “The people in the future harm the nature. They cut down lots of trees. They also hunt many animals and destroy their habitats. The whole world becomes imbalanced. The gods of the nature punish us so we become very ugly! Besides, a volcano which had slept for 1,000 years will explode again. It is powerful and it will destroy lots of cities. We are in great danger.”
We were worried and we started to think of different solutions. After a while, I finally gave up and said, “Sorry, we cannot help you. You can find a smarter person for help.”
When Zuzu heard this, he was frustrated. He signed again and said,
“Never mind. We will send you back home now.” He stopped for a while and said, “By the way, I have something to give you before you go.”
He dug into his bag and took out a tiny torch.
“This torch is very unique. It is a magnifying torch. It may be very useful. I will give it to you as a souvenir. Maybe you can enlarge the food!” he said.
I felt sorry for him. My mind was struggling, I had to go or my parents would be worried, but I could not leave them alone!
Suddenly, an idea appeared in my mind. A perfect method. I called out, “Wait! Don’t send us back! I have an idea!
Zuzu’s eyes lit up. He grabbed my arm and said, “Please, please tell me! Please!”
I comforted him and said, “Be calm. I will tell you. I think we can…”
Before I stopped talking, the land was suddenly shaking. Zuzu said,
“Oh no! The volcano is going to explode now! Go away quickly!”
We rushed out of the house. I grabbed Dorothy’s arm and whispered,
“Go near the volcano! I have a fabulous way to save the world!”
We ran towards the volcano. Zuzu chased after us and shouted,
“Don’t go there! It is too dangerous!”
We ignored him and ran as fast as we could.
We stopped at the bottom of the volcano. It was enormous and extremely powerful. “Do you remember that we played marbles this morning?”
“Don’t say this kind of rubbish to me! Hurry up! What is the method?” Dorothy grumbled.
“Don’t be so impulsive! Just answer me! Do you have some of the marbles in your pocket right now?”
“Yes, so what, boss?” she grumbled again.
“Use the magnifying torch to enlarge the marbles and throw them towards the volcano!” I said.
Dorothy was still angry but the land was shaking more violently. I yelled,
“Hurry up!”
We took out the marbles from our pockets and said together,
“Three, two, one, shoot!”
We tossed the marbles as high as we could. Then, I turned on the torch. The lights shone on them and they became massive marbles! At last, they sucked into the volcano. We succeeded!
We were exhausted so we sat down for a rest. Suddenly, lots of green creatures rushed and shouted,
“Hero! Hero!”
They threw us towards the sky.
Then, Zuzu, the king came out from a shelter. He said gratefully,
“Thank you for saving us. You are super heroes!”
He gave us a badge and said, “Press the red button on the back and you can visit us again! Bye!”
Before we thanked him, he pressed the button. Strong light came out from the badge. It lifted us up higher and higher! Suddenly, it stopped and kept falling down until we hit something soft. When we opened our eyes, we were in my bedroom again!
We smiled at each other and said, “What an exciting adventure!” From now on, we had to protect our environment!
