Having an opportunity to have a working holiday in Australia is invaluable. I stayed on holiday in Australia for up to one year and took up employment there in order to make ends meet. It is sometimes said that working in another country is harsh and stressful. There may be some truth in this statement. But I think differently. I believe that my stay was totally unforgettable and precious. There was especially one day during the stay which is the most unforgettable.
I lived and worked in Perth, which is a comparatively more relaxing city. I was fortunate to be able to find a job as a salesperson in a shop selling shoes. The shop was small and was located at a quiet street.
The most unforgettable event happened one afternoon. After having my lunch, I arranged the shoes on the shelves and tidied up the shelves. Suddenly, a mother with a cute girl walked into the shop. I politely asked, “What would you like to have, madam?” Unfortunately, she replied in French. Then I shouted to myself, “Oh no! They are French!”
The mother and her daughter picked up one of the shoes for children. They tried to use gestures to show what they wanted. I tried very hard to figure out what they wanted to have. Finally, the little girl tried on a pair of pink shoes and a smile lit up her face. She looked at me with a big smile of satisfaction. The mother then paid the money. When I handed over the shoes to the girl, she surprisingly gave me a hug as a gesture of thanks. It was heartwarming and I was delighted. I waved goodbye to both of them as they walked away.
Although it was just a simple act from the girl, I gained support and encouragement. In Australia, I have met people from all walks of life. It was always uplifting when receiving a smile or a supportive act from a stranger, even though he might be a person speaking in a different language. Not only did the one-year holiday broaden my horizons, it also enabled me to experience love from all corners of the globe. Therefore, you should not miss the chance to have a working holiday or you will face a lifetime of regret.
