Steven Chow – a 100% Hong Konger. He is a great actor, director and filmmaker. He was the box office record holder and two-time winner of ‘The Best Actor Award’ in Hong Kong Film Festival. His career in the film industry brings him to glory and become one of the most significant stars of Hong Kong. His success drew my attention and lastly he becomes my inspiring soul.
Shaolin Soccer, once a box-office hit, was filmed by Steven in midst of the territory’s economic recession. He brought laughter to everyone who was under stress at that time and cheered his audience up. In the film, he says, ‘People without goals is no difference than a preserved fish!’ The line inspired many people, including myself. People took up some challenges and set their goals. They geared themselves again and finally succeeded in overcoming the financial crisis. For myself, I was upset by the poor academic result at that time. I lost my goals but Steven’s movie cheered me up and acted like a lighthouse in the dark. I was recharged and felt energized. I set up different targets and got them achieved. Finally, my academic result in that academic year improved. Chow’s film gave me a meaningful message – set goals for myself, never give up and fight till success comes.
Chow’s attitude to work is what he inspired me the most. He is highly focused when he makes a movie. He give the best quality work to the audience. For example, in Shaolin Soccer, he remixed Michael Jackson’s moonwalk and steps of Thriller. He dances with a group of actors and actresses right in front of the ‘Sweet Bun Shop’. Although they look silly, the scene becomes a classic one in the movie. His work has inspired me to work hard in every aspect and grab all the chances to show my ability.
Steven has taught me to set goals for myself, be focused on my jobs and work hard. Steven Chow is really my inspiring soul.
