Dear Diary,

Why today is special

I did it! I can’t believe I really did it! I am officially sober for 365 days! Hurray! One year ago, I was this irresponsible, bad-tempered and messed up alcoholic who were in and out of the hospital for excessive drinking. Now, I’m reborn! To celebrate my revival in life, my lovely alcoholic support group held a celebration party! I was so touched by all these amazing groupmates and my coach, Ms Lam who supported me and inspired me along my way to quit drinking. This is definitely one of the most significant days in my life.

How I prepared for the day

To celebrate this triumphant day, I bought a red Valentino dress that I had wanted for donkey’s years! I know it is quite pricy, but this red dress really means a lot to me because it is the dress I promised myself that I would only buy to award myself if I successfully quit drinking. I really earned this dress. Besides the gorgeous dress, I also prepared a speech for the party. It is about my journey to push away the temptation of drinking. I really hope my story will inspire my fellow groupmates who are still struggling to be sober.

What I did during the day

The day was absolutely divine! Before the party, I delivered my speech. My coach’s and groupmates’ eyes were all swollen as they listened to my arduous journey to alcohol-free life. I also expressed my most sincere gratitude to all the people in the group who stood beside me to fight this uphill battle. Afterwards, the party started. We ate snacks and drank (coke of course). My favourite songs, “A New Day. A New Me” and “We Run the World” were played and we danced for the whole evening. It was such a joyful day filled with laughter, love, and support.

Today is just the beginning!

Today’s party celebrated one of the biggest milestones in my life. It represents my revival and empowers me to keep on moving forward. This is not only the day on which I say “good-bye” to my old self. It is also the start of a new beginning, a new life of a better version of me. I must constantly remind myself not to follow the tracks of an overthrown chariot and do not let my groupmates and coach down. I will never let alcohol wreck my life again because I am the FORCE!
