Secondhand Lions is a western family film which is directed by Tim McCanlies.
The story is set in the 1960s and takes place in a Texan farm. It’s about a boy called Walter who is acted by Haley Joel Osment. He is sent to live with his two uncles. Hub
And Garth who are acted Robert Duvall and Michael Caine respectively and gets into
a new life with his uncles.
At the beginning of the story, Walter is sent to the farm that uncles Hub and Garth are living because his mother wants him to find out the secret fortune that the two uncles have hidden. At first, Walter thinks his uncles are boring and useless but later he finds out that the two uncles have their story. After living with the two uncles for a longer time, Walter builds up a deep relation with his uncles. Although the two uncles just think that they are getting old and useless. Walter tells them becoming old does not mean that they are useless. And at the same time, the two uncles teach Walter how to grow up to be a man.
The main message of the theme is about family relationship. It tells us that a good relationship is made up of love and truth. Even though the people come from two different generations, they can still trust each other and communicate with no barrier.
It is an enjoyable and encouraging film.
Moreover, the characters are also brilliant and realistic. The acting skill of the main character, Walter is excellent. He has a nice performance. The acting of the two uncles is also impressive. The scene that is about uncle hub fighting with some bullies without any weapons can show us how brave they are. They make the film become more interesting and entertaining. Overall, the film is above averge.
