It is suggested that the quality of library be improved by fulfilling students’ needs and extra supply be provide. Some students have aired their views that the library is lacking in computers and have a poor environment. The donation can be used for increasing the number of computers and updating the software. It can also be used for improving the facilities like tables and chairs and proving more free space between tables. Some table may also be separated into individual study cubicles. In terms of extra supply, a wider variety of books and DVDs such as philosophy, travel and foreign languages can be added. iPads can also be bought to cater for the new learning methods.
How students will benefit from the improvements
The students can benefit from them greatly as they can have their academic need satisfied, have a better studying environment and develop their interests. First the improvements can surely satisfy students’ academic needs. Computers and iPads enable students to browse the internet and use the apps, allowing them to solve their questions and difficulties with the wide range of information and videos accessed to. Students can also get answers and extra exercise with the help of technology. Besides, the library can provide a better learning environment. The library is a necessary place for some students before tests and exams. Different from the tables linked together, individual study cubicle can definitely provide a quiet space form them to focus more on revision. They will not be disturbed by others, and thus having a better performance. Lastly, providing varied types of books and DVDs can develop their interests. Language books like German, Korean and Spanish their language skills.
How the school should thank the donor
The school could write a thank you letter or give presents to the donor. Besides, an individual reply from the students will be the best option. On the surface, the donor wanted to improve the library facilities, but we all know that it is to improve students’ learning environment. The donor may want to find out how the students can benefit from his donation. The library can promote a reading programme which encourages students to read books, watch DVDs or surf the internet to learn. Then records about students getting help from the donor can be given to the donor. Students with high achievements enabled by his donation will be asked to write a thank you letter to the donor. This will be the greatest gift to the donor and it can surely show the school’s thankfulness to him.
