Title: Do you support selfies or not?                                                                                                                       Chan Wun Hei 1A02

Selfie sticks are devices in the form of a rod on which a camera or smartphone may be mounted, enabling the person to hold it to take a photograph of themselves from a wider angle than if holding the camera or smartphone in their hands. Selfie sticks are popular recently and spreaded over the whole world. However, I don’t support selfies.

Firstly, we cannot use selfie sticks everywhere. For example, some museums and galleries banned selfie sticks. We will easily forget to focus on the experience itself and we lose sight of ourselves.

Secondly, selfies are dangerous. Because we may hit others in crowded area. The phone fall down and hit others when not installed well and while those who whip them at a crowded concert may poke a few people in the eye.

Moreover, we cannot take natural photos. The size of face becomes larger and the photo can only capture partial of the body due to the limited angle. Large groups are difficult to be captured in a selfie as well.

However, somebody says they make it easy to take a group photo. I don’t agree. Although it is easier to take group photos, there is a limitation of the number of people captured in the photo. It is just a small group of people but not a large group. When you take the photo, the outstretched arm or the selfie stick is visible in the image. It makes the photo not natural.

In conclusion, I don’t support selfies. Although it is easier to take small group photo without asking people for help, we forgot to focus on the experience. People should use it carefully and safely in order not to make dangers and nuisance to others. Otherwise, selfie sticks will become ‘selfish sticks’.
