Have you ever met a teacher who is so strict that he never smiles? I bet you don’t as the teacher might be crazy! But I do have a teacher like this. My English teacher Mrs. Wong who is teaching my class now NEVER ever smiles!

When we had the first English lesson, we all hoped that a nice teacher would teach us. When we were ‘day-dreaming’, a teacher walked in. She had black, straight and long hair. Her eyes were so big that they nearly fell out. She was all in red. We all knew that we were in trouble when she walked in. She was very strict. She said she would call our parents to bring the homework to school if anyone of us forgot to bring ours. That sounded horrible, right? Having her lessons was really tough.

Although she was strict, she taught very well. She taught quickly and we learnt lots of English out of syllabus. She also marked our homework as quickly as a machine. Our compositions would be marked and distributed after the day we had submitted. We thought she was a workaholic, wasn’t she? She even hadn’t smiled since the day she taught us as she claimed we didn’t do well. In fact, lots of my classmates really didn’t submit homework on time! She was an ‘iron lady’!

One day, a set of English newspaper was lost in our classroom. She went mad and scolded us. Who took the newspaper?’ Her voice was like thunder.

No one put up his hand. She was in a rage and she rushed out of the classroom. After school, I went to the convenience store and bought a setof English newspaper, hoping to make her happy. I then rushed back to school and ran directly to the staff room. I met John at the stairs next to the staff room. He was smiling sweetly. I was puzzled. Why did he smile?

‘May I see Mrs. Wong please? ‘Yes, Anson. May I help you?’‘Sorry Mrs. Wong, I took your newspaper.‘That’s fine. She walked away. I thought this incident was over, but fate was always out of our control…

The next day, Mrs. Wong walked into our classroom with lots of newspapers. She shouted, ‘I got 36 sets of newspaper yesterday!’ Then she started to weep. Oh, each of us gave her a set of newspaper yesterday! ‘Kids, you all have grown up. You’ve tried to bear the responsibility; That’s why Im so touched.’

All of us gave a big round of applause to ourselves. Mrs. Wong wanted us to learn better, so she was so strict. She acted as a workaholic as she loved all of us. She was no longer an ‘iron lady’. Guess what? Finally, my teacher gave us a sweet smile. Hurray!
